I have a broad background in aquatic ecology in both freshwater and marine environments specialising in the evaluation of water quality parameters (chemical, microbiological and ecological) and their interpretation against current environmental standards. Over my 15+ years in a consultancy role I have been responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of comprehensive water and sediment quality management programs at a number of locations, and currently manage a number of APEM’s long-term on-going water quality monitoring studies. These have involved the monitoring and management of the water quality and ecology of these sites and implementation of necessary improvements to maintain or improve their environmental quality and use as recreational water bodies. I also specialise in algal bloom assessment and management. I have provided professional advice on the source and impacts of algal blooms, and on monitoring and management options to a wide range of clients including government bodies, water companies, recreational centres, event organisers and angling associations. I have undertaken studies on taste and odour compounds (2-MIB and geosmin).
