As the Head of Product Management for Nasdaq Trade Surveillance (NTS), Ian Hawkins leads a team that is dedicated to the strategic development of a surveillance solution that proactively detects, investigates, and reports on nefarious trading behaviors and potential market abuse. Ian is responsible for defining and driving the strategic direction, which requires a deep understanding of Nasdaq’s clients’ needs and global regulatory changes that affect market abuse surveillance.Ian’s experience at the intersection of technology and finance spans over 25 years, and he has a proven track record in business analysis, solution design, and product management. He first broke into compliance as a business analyst for trade surveillance within large investment banks where he built, designed, wrote, calibrated and in some cases decommissioned surveillance across all asset classes, eventually leading him to his role at Nasdaq.Prior to his role as the Head of Product Management, Ian led NTS’ Advisory Services, acting as a specialized consultant to help advise firms’ surveillance programs to ensure effective coverage of their market abuse risk. Through this role, he led the evaluation of a firm’s overall risk exposure to then help them optimize coverage and alerts and ensure alert accuracy and high-quality data.Ian’s experience working in technology and compliance has given him a unique perspective on the industry. He is a passionate and experienced Market Abuse Trade Surveillance SME with a deep understanding of capital markets, surveillance across all asset classes and the evolving regulatory environment.
