Senior Software Engineer

- Lead the efforts to achieve SAP Certification for all our products. This allowed the company to give more confidence to our customers and be able to do business with customers who needed it.- Lead on test migration from Python to Java. This required figuring out what tests should be ported, what utilities we needed in the new framework, creating stories for all the porting work, and delegating the work to the internal and off-shore team.- Lead on project to pull in credential information from a secure location. This required a lot of refactoring and logic to get and use the information for all the existing tests. I also worked with multiple teams to make design changes to allow the testing to be more stable and easier to use.- Took over as liaison between Tableau and partners to help them with creating new connectors. This partnership allows our product to gain new database connectors we might not have time for but still maintain the same quality we expect if it was done in house.- Scrum master on my team. Daily tasks involve making sure our incoming defects were triaged before standup, make sure sprint tasks are on track, and come up with documents and plans to help the team succeed. - Created a company wide action chart and playbook for how to analyze the nightly automation run results. This helped reduce the time needed to isolate a breaking change and inform teams on the best way to read their results.

- Focused on testing and automating Tableau Desktop, focusing on the connectors and everything that goes with that- Worked with a different team to fine tune the database where the server information is stored to make it more robust and easier for testers to use- Added additional hooks to the libraries to make it easier to automate more of the Desktop tests- Was on point to test a feature on a wide variety of features to allow SQL queries to be called before the connection is created- Became point person for the SAP connectors and all the testing that goes on with their parameters. This caught a lot of bugs that, if released, would cause major issues for customers with multi-million dollar deals- Did extensive refactoring of automation framework to reduce testing time by at least 30 hours for each run (cumulative). This also allowed to perform faster ad-hoc testing on new connectors since we didn't need all the wiring setup in the internal database testing environment.- Worked with a small team to work on a project to port features from SAP HANA into Tableau. This allows more of our customers to use the data structures they had setup and make it a more seamless transition. This required learning and setting up data in the SAP WEB IDE.- Continuously improved the entire team's automated tests to get the noise and false results down. This allowed us to spot real issues quicker and have them fixed in time. This also cut down on a lot of redundant test passes since we could now rely that the tests would have caught regression issues.

- Gave a co-presentation to roughly 30 people on the benefits to good automation and how to construct a test framework.Current project-The current reporting from the internal automation framework just reports on individual suites executed. There was a want and need from other testers to have a single report that consolidates all the reports from the individual suites. I was able to create this report for a quicker glance on an entire test run and be able to pinpoint the failures faster.-Tasked with porting over existing service level automated tests and creating new ones to make sure a php to java port is successful-Created a wrapper around existing company test framework to have tests runnable through Maven. It involved an extensive hierarchy to integrate seamlessly. -Used RestAssured to send requests and validate the JSON response-Contributed to main QA framework-Onboarded 3 other SDETs-Gave a presentation to the client on good QA practices and how they can help everyone-Helped be the first to integrate automated framework with internal tools to build, deploy, and run automated tests.Previous projects-In charge of spearheading efforts to automate bottom layer SOA web services. -Lack of documentation and direction meant designing the project from scratch and leveraging knowledge from multiple teams effectively.-Used Groovy and WSLite to make SOAP calls to the services. Also used soapUI to manually validate payloads before automating them.-Worked closely with over 7 teams to get their requirements and acceptance of tests automated-Used WebLogic connections to grab data from JMS Topics for test validation-Worked with deployment team to trigger appropriate automation in the CI tool based on the code being deployed-Created groovydocs using Ant tasks in Maven pom file to allow BSAs gain a better understanding of what the tests were doing- Converted tests to use TestNG and customized ReportNG to display additional information in the test reports

Aug 2013 - Sep 2015

Lead Senior Qa Engineer

- Helped design and build out original testing framework using Selenium and Java- Converted tests from JUnit to Testng for better test management- Helped design and build out final automation framework using WebDriver and Java. Helped make it more OO using PageFactories.- Worked with ITOps to create a config and deploy file to trigger an auto-deployment to specific environments with the latest release versions.- Created a CI flow using Hudson and Ant to automatically kick off nightly regression tests and BVT tests when an autodeploy was finished. - Created a bash script to pull in the latest release code information and put into a Jenkins job. The combination of the CI efforts allows the QA team to trigger one job in Jenkins to get the latest release versions, trigger an auto deployment, run the bvts and email the results to the team.- Created a large, in-depth document with a flow chart to explain very complicated business logic that drives the majority of our business. This was done mainly to help other teams gain insight on how our main page shows data.- Taught myself jsp and servlets to create a web application to help every employee in the company. The application would provide information on why data on the website wouldn't show up or where it would be positioned if it should show up- Helped transition off Silk Central using our TestNG automation framework and moving manual tests to Jira saving the company licensing costs and making regression more efficient.- Used Gson to automate back end api json testing.- Implemented Browsermob proxy to gather network information for verification during tests.- Converted old, convoluted BVTs to more generic and easily repeatable tests. Injected js elements directly into the DOM for setting up tests more efficiently. This allowed the BVTs to run stabler. - Worked with ITOps to spin up multiple VMs to run nightly regression on, speeding up execution time greatly.

Main responsibilities were to test the website and backend infrastructure and eventually tested Android applications. Was in charge of maintaining and creating new automation for website and API. Provided final acceptance on the quality of sprint tasks. Worked closely with developers to figure out what to test and gain insight on edge cases to test. Saw a need to improve quality on the android application and set out to learn and develop automation using Robotium.Key Achievements:Converted the existing Selenium web automation from JUnit to TestNG for better script execution. This allowed faster BVT and release smoke testingIncorporated the automation into Ant for nightly full suite test runs against nightly deployments. Added automation tasks to Hudson to run specific tests on code checkin.Used Groovy to automate backend API calls and integrated that with TestNG. Researched into android automation to improve regression of the UI for the application. Learned about and incorporated Robotium into the android client Used JMeter to run performance tests on old and new code changes to make sure new functionally didn't break the SLA for page load time. Also used a Selenium script to profile webpage load times. Associate SDET - Classmates Online

Originally interviewed to test HTML emails but managers realized the work was too simple. Joined the PE team, which was in charge of site-wide test coverage as well as managing releases. The only automation created was using Silk and limited in scope. Learned Selenium and used Java to quickly create automation suites to better cover regression tests. The work and passion shown in taking the initiative to increase productivity led to being promoted to Associate SDET. Being able to work well with others and my ability to adapt to new projects made me valuable to other group, which led to them requesting me to test large and difficult projects as the sole tester.Key Achievements:Tested the migration of data from a handful of MySQL servers to a single Oracle database. This required data validation using queries in both databases and making sure the data was correctly copied over. Worked with Selenium RC and Java to create automated test suites for faster regression. The automations cut manual regression time down by 2.5 hours per test (which would average around 20 hours for a 2 week release cycle). Automated gathering information on all the images on the site using Perl and ImageMagick to help the developers fix certain image types. Also created some integration JUnit tests to perform tests calling the Webservice directly. This was used with other teams to also insert test data quickly and reliably.Wrote up steps using the company wiki to help other team members set up their machines to record their own tests. Also gave demonstrations on using Selenium and Java and helped in the decision process for purchasing a company wide test case management software.

Shortly after being hired was put on testing Rosetta Net 2.0, a business document type, as the sole tester. Worked with two way encryption to validate documents were decrypted with the correct keys while in the correct location. Moved to testing desktop application that acted like a ftp transport to send large files between clients.Key Achievements:Learned Perl to automate window application to perform ftp and http transactions. Verified that the files successfully made it to the client and the correct status code was returned in XML format.Performed deployments that required multiple people. Deployments would take place through multiple environments. Deployments were a manual process of copying over the new build code, turning off services and jobs then restarting everything.Created SQL scripts to gather data between Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g database updates to make sure no information was lost in the conversion. Ran and edited SQL script and also build stored procedures for new builds.
