While entering what was then my seventh year studying creative writing, my decision, as a freshman, to explore industrial engineering came easily to me, allowing me to further broaden my knowledge and skillset. My continued love for writing and newfound commitment to engineering allow me to recognize the need for minds adept both at thinking analytically and creatively within STEM careers.As society becomes more automated, I continue to ask questions regarding the inclusion of abstract thinking as it applies to industrial engineering and innovation—how will methods of function allocation need to be updated as autonomous machines become integrated into human life? How can industrial engineering help to bring systems divergent from traditional business-based organizations up to speed in a rapidly-evolving society?
