After co-founding opsis architecture some 15 years ago I am in change mode. This really began on my 60th birthday when I first realized there was not an infinity of time. So, when I got to my 61st birthday the idea of recalibration was in full motion.5 months later on July 1, 2014 I finalized the sale of my shares in opsis to my two partners. We built many great buildings and 2013 had the highest billings in our history, we also used 2013 to lay the plans for a firm transition working with national consultants. All this offered me an opportunity to recalibrate……meaning, I am doing the same things, but so differently……..I thought I would reorder…thus, work dropped down the list. It had been No. 1 for so many years, but no more. I am balancing my life portfolio with a plan to average a couple days a week of professional architecture/development activities, enough to stay active and on my toes, but, now I have blocks of time for other activities. On a good week I have blended family, travel, adventure, work and well-being all into one.I have been doing professional work including pro bono activities, managing real estate I own and getting development projects under construction….but I have also had quality time with my granddaughter, traveled throughout the northwest, kicked the cabin renovation into gear, bought a truck, started the Porsche restoration, lost 10 pounds, engaged in a bucket of recreation activities, helped reroof my daughters house, was in a plane crash, split a couple cords of wood, harvested 4 gallons of honey, put my sailboat back in the water, got in lots of trips to the farmers market….and much more.I am thankful for all my professional collaborators in the creation of many wonderful buildings and look forward to more adventures.My opsis email is still active, but I am in motion to a new address; jamesmeyer.rooftop@gmail.com
