    Poverty and hunger continues to be a global challenge, but poor subsistence households also suffer from "hidden hunger", or micronutrient deficiency. The lack of adequate zinc, iron and vitamin A in the diet contributes to a host of negative health outcomes, especially for children. For example, 23 percent of preschool-age children are stunted globally because of zinc deficiency. HarvestPlus is a global leader in the development, marketing and distribution of biofortified crops. Biofortification is the process of conventional crop breeding, making staple crops like rice, wheat and corn naturally more nutritious. In my role as Communications Designer, I'm responsible for the creation of an array of multimedia, reports, video and web-based content to promote this remarkable innovation benefiting more than 100 million people.

    Beginning in 1999, I joined EPIC as a pro-bono graphic designer to help draw attention to the punitive sanctions imposed on Iraq after the first Gulf War. I created a steady stream of placards, postcards, web graphics, direct mail fundraising appeals, and even a full-page ad appearing in the New York Times. After the U.S invasion, I would later come on as a paid consultant to help update EPIC's website, social media and development infrastructure. Accomplishments: in 2016 our team launched Soccer Salam, helping to raise much needed funds for humanitarian relief and to send 1000s of soccer balls to Iraqi youth.
