I co-founded the Center for Story-Based Strategy (aka SmartMeme) in 2002. Today as Principal and co-owner of SmartMeme Studios LLC I provide copywriting, art direction, and project management for our clients. I helped found the nonprofit Union Tourism Association in 2009 and served as (2013) President. I was part of the founding (2014) board of directors for the nonprofit Youth Empowerment Strategies (YES) in Washington. Today I'm active in a number of social justice and environmental organizations in my community. Our clients are big and small nonprofits, businesses, organizations, foundations, policy professionals and lawmakers.After working for ABC News in the 1990’s I was an investigative journalist, filmmaker, and writer/director for public interest communication firms. My writing on politics and pop culture - from Battlestar Galactica to the World of Warcraft – is published by BenBella Books, including an afterward to the science fiction classic The Sheep Look Up by John Brunner. My work has appeared in national media publications like The New York Times Magazine, The Washington Post, and Communication Arts. I live in Union, Washington where I also referee the Olympic Catapult League.
