I am a general business lawyer representing for-profit and non-profit enterprises. While I have represented Fortune 500 companies in local matters, my focus is on small and mid-size companies and the broad range of issues that a growing business and its owners and managers encounter, such as tax, contracts, mergers/acquisitions, human resources, finance, real estate and regulatory. Ancillary areas are estate planning and succession planning for family businesses. In the non-profit area, my focus is on education and environmental matters, particularly land and historic preservation. My close acquaintance with the founders of businesses has given me a proficiency in governance as well.My experience in the world of commerce and commercial and business litigation has led to a substantial practice as an arbitrator for large, complex commercial cases, both domestic and international, some involving millions of dollars. My civic interests focus on land and historic preservation and have served on numerous boards that serve those purposes. I am currently chair of the MD Environmental Trust, a trustee and officer of the Maryland Historical Society and trustee of The Manor Conservancy, of which I was founder and former chairman. I also serve on the board of Notre Dame of Maryland University. Past associations have been as chairman of the Baltimore County Landmarks Preservation Commission and trustee of Preservation Maryland, the Manor Area Association, the Preservation Association and consulting committee of Ladew Topiary Gardens. On a personal note, I raised my large family on a historic farm in northern Maryland where I have always been deeply involved in land preservation efforts. Show less
