About Jay Martin

I'm Jay Martin, a Filmmaker, Festival Director, and Media Communications Professional based in Nottingham. My journey into visual storytelling began with my studies in film/video production at the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies, where I honed a diverse skill set in film direction, writing, and editing.Since October 2024, I have been working as interim Head of Communications and Engagement for Steve Yemm MP, representing Mansfield. In this role, I oversee all external communications and engagement efforts, with a particular focus on enhancing community outreach and ensuring that Mansfield's voice is heard in Parliament. Building on my background in media relations and public engagement, I aim to bring a fresh, informed perspective to the role, tackling both local and national issues with transparency and clarity.Prior to this, I worked as a Communications Officer for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire. In that role, I led communication efforts for important initiatives such as Safer Streets and Immediate Justice, collaborating closely with Nottinghamshire Police and third-sector organisations. I developed and executed communication strategies across multiple platforms while maintaining a politically neutral stance. As a filmmaker, I directed my debut film, *Catharsis*, which was well-received for its thought-provoking content, and produced the political documentary short *REDt'BLUE*, which premiered to a sold-out audience in 2022. My passion for storytelling led me to launch the Mansfield Town Film Festival in 2023, showcasing diverse, working-class talent from around the world.Through my work in both public service communications and the film industry, I continue to use the power of stories to connect communities and inspire positive change.
