At RespondTV, Jay was Co-Founder and Chief Technical Officer. The company was an Interactive Television system provider with $40M of investment and ran hundreds of aired interactive programs and commercials on a highly-scalable content distribution service of Jay's design. RespondTV was acquired by Thomson Consumer Electronics.

In 1995, VeriFone, Inc. acquired EIT to form its Internet Commerce Division. As a condition of the acquisition, Jay stayed on as its architect of Web Merchant Solutions and worked closely with Wells Fargo and Microsoft to ship VeriFone's Virtual Point of Sale (vPOS) 1.0 software within a year. Hewlett-Packard acquired VeriFone in 1997 for $1.8 Billion, citing their Internet Commerce Divison and Smart Card system products as the top two reasons. Jay became a prestigious VeriFone/HP Technical Fellow, before leaving to co-found RespondTV.

Jay led EIT's charge to become the first commercial company focusing on Web commerce technologies. Jay was the first to design and prototype many key Web technologies: forms-capable browsers, Web storefronts and order forms, relational database/Web integration, HTML-based Web server administration, and tree-control Web management tools.
