NATURE OF WORKThis class is part of the Code Enforcement Job Family. Incumbents perform a broad range of tasks ranging from routine to specialized support. Responsibilities may include interpreting complaints to determine correct enforcing agency; searching databases to gather zoning approval, site plan, and related information; compiling information to prepare related documents; and responding to a broad range of public inquiries.1) Reviews and interprets referrals and complaints to determine whether a response is needed from the department; determines enforcing agency appropriate to handle referrals or complaints; creates code cases for referrals or complaints as needed.2) Enters data and maintains databases of information; compiles data to ensure case files and related documents contain necessary information.3) Responds to a wide range of inquiries from the public and internal agencies to provide department, regulatory, or related information.4) Conducts research to gather and compile information on zoning, real estate, and geographic information at state and local level.KNOWLEDGEApplicable state and county laws, rules, codes, and ordinances;Customer service principles;Research methods and processes;Land management, Real Estate, and other relevant systems;Map and other various blueprints reading methodsSKILLSProviding customer service;Assessing complaints;Maintaining information databases;Record keeping and preparing reports;Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

General knowledge of Zoning Ordinance, Property Maintenance Code and related codes; general knowledge of routine legal methods and procedures related to enforcement of laws and ordinances; general knowledge of methods and procedures associated with zoning permits; ability to read and interpret site and grading plans, architectural plans, zoning maps, subdivision plans and plats, and proffers. Experience in planning, site development, code enforcement, and 2 years work experience in Zoning and required Ordinance Codes that need to be met in order to avoid violations or abate existing violations and bring the property up to today's code. Assists in gathering and documenting data for generating reports; Processes applications at counter for zoning approval; Reads and evaluates plats and plans for conformance with Zoning Ordinance standards. Reviews and processes applications for nonconforming uses, sign permits, and temporary activity permits; Performs basic research as required for zoning approvals; Providing technical information on obtaining zoning approvals, inspections, business licensing, rules and regulations by both the County Ordinances and State Codes. Provides technical guidance, work coordination to assigned technicians and planners; Researches zoning and proffer interpretations regarding zoning requirements of applications; Researching and interpreting state and local codes; Planning, coordinating and organizing projects to accomplish organizational goals; managing the issuance and processing of land and zoning applications, in conformance with applicable laws, codes, statutes, ordinances and requirements. Investigates complaints of violations of the County Zoning Ordinance, Property Maintenance Code and other County codes and ordinances as determined by the property maintenance program and issue zoning approvals when everything meets county ordinance.
