I was a team leader, managing my team while driving projects and developing new revenue sources on Microsoft News, a team that builds news related sites that get used across the globe. This required an understanding of the unique needs of different markets and an understanding and respect for different privacy and usage laws. I led a team of 8 engineers and drove larger projects across the organization. Leading my team first and foremost meant maintaining motivation and helping each person grow within their career in their own unique way. I have created new partnerships and nurtured existing ones, while creating combined road maps, to drive new product development. To meet deadlines and hit budget I have determined metrics that are necessary to evaluate success and track progress while ensuring key stakeholders have the relevant information needed.

I created and implemented designs for large projects by leveraging my strengths and the expertise of colleagues across the company as part of the Microsoft News team. Due to the collaborative nature of projects of this scope, my work also involved coordinating with others to ensure cohesion of all the pieces and that the project as a whole stayed on track. Working on, and driving, high profile projects also required me to consistently communicate timelines, risks, and updates to various leadership teams, while offering suggestions to influence the higher level road map.

The UCI group within Office was a team that worked on a number of natural language features across the Office suite of applications. The largest of these projects was the TellMe feature which improves the productivity of users by allowing natural language searches and bringing up associated commands and actions. As part of this project I vocalized the need for, and then implemented, a standardized data collection and reporting pipeline. This work allowed our team to tailor improvements to different languages and ensure the experience was improving productivity as intended. My work on UCI is also a great example of my ability to jump in to new areas and contribute quickly. The TellMe project required work on multiple different platforms which I was successfully able to do while identifying and maintaining cohesiveness to the final product.

As a test engineer in Office I worked to ensure quality with an eye for detail and the user experience. As part of this, I identified patterns of redundancy and implemented solutions to standardize work to lower the initial cost and long term support costs associated with quality assurance across the Office organization. I also drove root cause analysis of problems and solutions to ensure issues were both fixed to their full extent and would not repeat.
