Joel was recruited to Accenture during COVID to help build & grow a local healthcare consulting practice. To add capacity, he initiated the acquisition of GEVITY (a 100 person boutique healthcare consultancy) and to grow revenue and impact, he launched and led a new Private Sector Healthcare practice focused on the emerging Retail Care sector in Canada (eg. Pharmacy & Primary Care Chains). In this role he also supported their technology providers to help modernize their products to capitalize on new technologies (eg. AI), new funding, and tools to improve workflows, care coordination & patient engagement. In two years he has grown the practice from $0 to >$25M.

Joel was seconded to Think Research (THNK.TSX) from iGan Partners (an investor) to grow revenue and the company's international expansion leading up to the its IPO in Dec 2020. A member of the Executive Team, he led Sales, Partnerships and International Expansion. Think Research is a digital health and virtual care SAAS company that sells clinical decision support tools and operates a network for the sharing of evidence-based clinical practices.

Joel was recruited on a one-year contract to design and build the first healthcare incubator in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) for the Governor of Riyadh. Joel set the incubator up with a focus on improving population health by bringing innovative healthcare technologies, concepts and funding models to the Kingdom. The incubator partnered with leading technology and health operators to launch PPPs in: breast cancer screening, executive healthcare, homecare and healthcare workforce training & development. Key operating partners included: the Mayo Clinic, mdBriefcase, St Elizabeth's Healthcare and Davita.

Joel and his team were recruited from Monitor Group to PwC to substantially grow the Middle East healthcare strategy practice. Originally based in Saudi Arabia and then Dubai, Joel built and ran what became the largest healthcare practice in the region with P&L responsibility for a team of 50+ consultants. We served served public providers, private payors and regulators and tackling some of their most pressing health system reform challenges.Key transformation projects centered on themes relevant to most health systems including:Strategy – developing a national strategy for healthcare including: forecasting demand; planning capacity; increasing private sector participation; and rethinking the national model of care;Delivery – adapting 'models of care' to deliver services outside of acute care settings (e.g. prevention, primary care & outpatient services and post-acute care) to reflect technology innovation, wireless connectivity and the local burden of disease;Incentives – modernizing funding & reimbursement systems (e.g. planning for the introduction of casemix funding and eventually payment for outcomes);Operations – developing master project plans (pre-commissioning) for new referral and tertiary care facilities (called Medical Cities).

Joel was the General Manager of Monitor Group in Saudi Arabia and led and managed the firm's Middle East Healthcare practice. Joel was seconded to Saudi Arabia in 2010 from Monitor Canada where he had been a strategy consultant since 2008 and started working almost exclusively in public sector healthcare - on redesigning reimbursement and restructuring a public hospital system.

Work included: sourcing content, developing mobile retail services and payments. “Connected Media” - a JV with clients: NewsCorp, Nokia & Vodafone to drive retail, entertainment, gaming and data services.Media & Entertainment – New Business Development for one of Europe’s leading media groups. Work included: i) exploiting new technologies to grow revenues from leading print and broadcast assets via premium mobile content. ii) developing new category specific retail opportunities in-print (travel, gardening, wine, books, CD’s & DVDs...).
