I led a 40+ person multi-disciplinary program management team comprised of project managers, engineers and logisticians with key matrixed personnel from cyber security, procurement management and financial management. We planned, programed and executed all aspects of sustainment, modernization and configuration control for the PARCS missile warning radar located in Cavalier, ND; a key sensor for the Integrated Tactical Warning Attack Assesment (ITWAA) network. We provided cost, schedule and technical performance oversight for 14 projects valued at $35M per year and forcasted projects for 6 years estimated at $210M.

Here, I managed the day-to-day operations for a Research and Development organization comprised of over 200 civilian, military and contractor scientists and engineers. Together, we planned and managed a $220M Science and Technology portfolio developing advance weapons technology to equip 5th and 6th generation combat aircraft and Special Operations Forces. Primary development areas consisted of Precision Navigation & Timing (PNT), Seeker and Sensor Technology, Autonomous Guidance Systems and Hypersonic Weapon Technologies. We dabbled in many other areas as well; just about anything that could help the "boots on the ground". I was able to work with the smartest, most talented scientists and engineers I've ever known in this job.

This job consisted of my first experience with the intricacies of weapons development. Specifically, Offensive Counter-Weapons of Mass Destruction. Think: eliminate a chemical weapons facility from long range without releasing the agent contained in the facility. This position involved learning new-to-me information about chemical agents, chemical make-up of anti-agent technologies, air-delivered weapon handling and employment as well as autonomous systems. There was so much more to this job and the learning curve was almost vertical. What a great job! I also was humbled to win the prestigious Lance P. Sijan Leadership Award for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency in 2013.

This was my first opportunity in a real leadership position. I directed the daily operations for a selectively-staffed (and now cancelled) Air and Space Basic Course professional education squadron. We provided over 1,750 hours of academic instruction annually covering officership values, leadership tools, team building, group dynamics and airpower employment concepts. My biggest accomplishment here was developing and implementing the course's first Distinguished Graduate program. We developed a mathematical program to measure and determine the top 10% students out of 700+ every class, 6 times a year.

My primary job here was as a Squadron Officer School instructor teaching officership values, leadership tools, followership, team building, group dynamics and airpower employment concepts. I had a leadership position on a team that designed and instituted the first-ever Squadron Officer School debate program; provided 800+ Company Grade Officers per year with the critical skills necessary to advocate future strategic policy. While here, I also led a 75-person team to organize and execute the 2009 Air Education and Training Command Symposium. As the Operations Director, my team scheduled 85+ presentations and over 100 displays providing 4,000+ attendees with cutting edge educational techniques.

This position included another steep learning curve with new technologies and gave me my first taste of managing multiple projects simultaneously. I led the 20+ person E-8C Integrated Product Team consisting of projects to design, install, and test modifications to the Air Force's fleet of ground surveillance aircraft. Primarily, I directed five acquisition programs including the $1.3B Joint STARS Re-engining program and the $423M Communications, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) program.

This was my first Integrated Product Team Lead position. My team was chartered to design, build, test and deliver 36 brand new flight simulators to support the Air Force's T-38C pilot training mission. In addition to learning about aircraft avionics and computer simulations, the challenging part of this job was leading a team of seasoned professionals as a young officer with one year of experience.

My first assignment as an Acquisition Program Manager. With zero experience as a project manager, the Air Force sent me to a 4-week school to learn the basics then assigned me to a program office managing modifications to the fleet of MC-130H Combat Talon II special operations airplanes. I was still trying to figure out what cost, schedule and performance meant when they gave me a project and said "go". After a few more weeks of learning the reporting aspects, figuring out how to present status, and climbing around the aircraft learning the technology, I started to get the hang of it and successfully completed multiple modifications. A fantastic position to learn the basics.

I joined the Air Force because I was a young kid who needed a job and insurance. The Air Force offered me the job of Ground Radio Communications Technician. I thought; "great, the guy running through the jungle with a radio on his back who gets shot first." Of course, it was nothing like that. I ended up working in a repair shop troubleshooting and repairing air traffic control radios, among other things. It turned out great and I ended up revisiting what I learned about electronic fundamentals and RF propagation 20 years later as a Branch Chief in Acquisitions.
