Russian Tumble Translation is the name of my freelance translation business. International Studies Program

Teaching university students at all levels on numerous subjects: nationalism; importance and function of international borders; the modernization of Europe; global competition, cooperation and conflict regarding water resources; history of U.S. engagement with the world. Important skills developed: identifying appropriate student outcomes and designing courses to address these; mastering PowerPoint and Excel software for preparing and delivering lectures and for grading; learning to use software and online platforms for teaching online and using them to teach web-based courses; meeting deadlines; helping students engage with subjects by encouraging them to find connections with these subjects to things they care about.

Filling in for a professor on sabbatical for one term, I taught a class on International Relations theory and a class on U.S. Foreign Policy. At Linfield I had the opportunity to exercise my then newly acquired skills for building college courses online. While these were not fully online courses, I utilized Liinfield's connection with the 'Blackboard' education platform to make course material available, receive students' work, present grades and give feedback online.

Teaching at the Art Institute was a fantastic experience that challenged me to retool my approach to learning for students with interests and backgrounds far different from what I had encountered so far in my academic experience. Teaching the Russian Revolution and the history and culture of Central Asia to students of art and design made me look at these subjects that I thought I knew so well from different perspectives. This really brought home to me the reality that teaching and learning are shared.
