Labor Services Representative
Despite the positive gains the Job Market has made over the last several years, more and more people are finding themselves in a situation they never imagined they would be in: Unemployed. Hopefully you never find yourself in this position, but if you do you should understand and realize that New York State has One-Stop Career Centers in every county in the State, and their resources are available to you; free of charge. As a recent college graduate looking to enter into the workforce, I was well-prepared by my professors for this next facet of my life. The Career Services Office at many colleges will help students write resumes and practice interviewing techniques, and also provided job leads and networking contacts for their students. Unfortunately people who aren’t college students (or even if you are) may not have access to these types of resources. That’s where we come in.The One-Stop Centers offer resume, interviewing, and computer workshops to help build the necessary skills to help you become reemployed. Each center has a Resource Room available for job searching that includes computers and fax machines. The staff at these Centers can work with you to help develop and implement a plan to find employment, and also help you apply for short-term training, or recommend approved training providers in the area. Money is precious and there are people and organizations out there who ruthlessly and shamefully try to profit off of people in seemingly desperate situations. We can help prevent that. If you visit the New York State Department of Labor Website you can search for your local One-Stop Career Center, and contact them to find out how to register so that you can take advantage of their services. http://www.labor.ny.gov/workforcenypartners/osview.asp
