My journey into the printing world began in 1983 in Washington D.C., when I met a man who would quickly become my mentor, Bill Blackwell. Bill owned a full-service graphic communications firm, Andromeda Associates, and he needed someone to help him qualify sales leads. Bill brought me through print shops, prep departments, and classes with the Printing Industries of America. These detailed classes, in addition to my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Dayton, laid a strong foundation for my knowledge of production, planning, plant management, and estimating. I learned integral details, like how to factor not only paper, ink, and plates into an estimate, but also to think of the big picture costs such as cleanup and safe waste disposal. I then moved on to become a production manager for the Humane Society of the United States in Washington, D.C., where I was able to reduce their annual printing budget by over two million dollars in a year through logical decision-making. I then went on to work as an Advertising Production Manager for Porter Novelli, an award-winning public relations firm. My strengths in estimating and planning printing jobs prompted me to open my own print shop in 1992 in Washington, D.C., where I learned many life and printing lessons before becoming the Production Manager at PRP Companies in 2002 after a move to California. My current position with PRP Companies is a great fit for me. My core values of honesty, integrity, and hard work align perfectly with the foundation and belief system established by PRP Companies. The environment I work in is always pushing the limits, and not only embracing change, but actually seeking it. This keeps my work fresh and my mind intrigued.

  After 30 years in the printing industry, I’ve seen many changes, but none quite like the ones I’ve experienced over the past 12 years working at PRP Companies. I’ve seen us expand our capabilities as a commercial printer to become a full-service communications solutions provider, offering print, large format print, apparel, creative, mail, and web services. This business integration has presented many opportunities for me to learn and to teach. My role in our holistic branding approach is to oversee all estimating and planning functions as well as scheduling, purchasing, and production operations in the printing department. I am able to assist in the operation of the following equipment if necessary: bindery, copier, folder, and cutter. However, my mind is my biggest asset to the team. I am able to strategically make the best financial and operational decisions for the company, contributing to our healthy growth. As the Production Manager I use my decision-making skills to effectively manage not only finances, but projects and people. Ultimately, I work to uphold the quality and reputation PRP Companies has built as the honest and dependable Central Coast printer, dating back to our roots as Poor Richard’s Press. Another one of my major roles is to tactically troubleshoot any internal problems that may arise with production equipment, project management, or any other questions or concerns that could interfere with our productivity. I also instill in my employees the company’s core values of reliability, honesty, and loyalty, bettering our company culture and customer relationships, and upholding our 66-year proven track record.
