Max is an experimental radio format, broadcasting on the Niocast Digital DAB multiplex in Manchester and also online via the UK Radioplayer and TuneIn. Max - 'Where the Eighties Live' - plays music from 1978 - 1989 and is licensed to broadcast by the UK regulator, Ofcom. Max has no studios. It is broadcast using the latest cloud-based radio station infrastructure and is run as a testbed for formatic and play-out experimentation by owner 2ZY.

Eye Radio, Juba, South Sudan

I visited Juba several times a year, and provided support remotely from Manchester. My role was to help grow the capacity of the local programme management team, broadcast staff and Station Director to develop Eye Radio, a full-service commercial radio station broadcasting from Juba in South Sudan. I was one of three embedded training leaders implementing transformation strategy as the station was rolled out through repeater transmitters in state capitals across the country. Whilst other colleagues were responsible for business administration, and sales, my role was programming and editorial lead.Since July 2016, the security situation in Juba is such that this work is now undertaken remotely from the UK, and recent training trips took place with the station's senior team in Nairobi.

Developed new brand for BBC station in Manchester, formerly BBC GMR. Extended programming to 24 hours and introduced new live OB strands across the week. Hired talent including Terry Christian, Tony Wilson, Shobna Gulati, John Thomson and Andy Crane. Led station through move to MediaCity UK.

Modernised programme schedule around 'Today's West Yorkshire' position. Managed move of station studios from Woodhouse Lane to Quarry Hill. Introduced new planning and journalism processes to enhance news coverage and feature programming. Developed links with community radio providers, notably BCB in Bradford including job swap for a week with that station's CEO.

English Regions Marketing Manager, responsible for activity around English Local Radio, Regional Television and online. Campaigns include launch of SE Region, Local Radio Football national campaign and Voices. Deputised regularly for Head of ER Marketing and advised senior team on marketing issues. Managed in-house Station Sound team to modernize the on-air positioning of the local radio network.

Introduced new line-up including Liz Kershaw and Bernie Keith, both of whom went on to be nominated for Sony Radio Awards.

Launched Canterbury's new radio station. Took station to on-air date in four months including locating premises, managing studio build project, recruitment and training of 15 staff and freelances and station marketing.

Guildford, United Kingdom

Responsible for station sound, social action, information services at the BBC’s new all-speech radio station for Sussex and Surrey. Devised new formats across the schedule. Managed big events coverage including Tour de France in Sussex in 1994. Also presented key Drivetime and Weekend Breakfast/Morning shows. Six month spell as District Reporter, West Surrey. Part of team that achieved record audience of 300k.

Part of the BBC Radio training team. Worked on over 20 radio stations, writing and delivering bespoke training courses for presenters, journalists and producers. Also as course instructor for group courses at BBC training facility at Grafton House in London. Delivered radio training to White City Estate Project as part of social action project for BBC GLR.

Presented Drivetime (Aug-Dec 1988) then weekday breakfast show thereafter, becoming at 19, the BBC's youngest breakfast presenter. Produced major outside broadcasts including the Gateshead Garden Festival, the North Shields Fish Quay Festival and three years of being lead Children in Need producer.

Assisted production of daytime programmes. Live reporter for various shows. Presented Drivetime and weekend shows.
