John L. SimonMr. Simon is a Real Estate Development and Planning Advisor with over 30 years of experience. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President, Strategic Planning, for the Howard Hughes Corporation (NYSE: HHC) where he was involved in projects ranging from master planned communities to the development and redevelopment of residential and commercial properties of all types. He served as Senior Vice President and Managing Director in charge of all real estate development nationally and internationally for Taubman Centers, Inc. (NYSE:TCO), a real estate investment trust that owns, develops, acquires, and operates regional retail centers. During his 27-year career at Taubman, Mr. Simon contributed to the development and redevelopment of major retail centers, urban and suburban, in the US and abroad, as well as worked on convention center expansions, sports stadiums, theatres, hotels and other commercial developments. Prior to that, Mr. Simon was a Senior Associate with Barton Aschman Assoc. a national and international city planning and transportation planning firm. There he worked on over 100 projects ranging from urban renewals, new towns, transportation systems and private and public transportation plans. He is co-author of the first edition of “Recommended Practices Manual” on how to properly conduct traffic analyses for major projects and co-developed the now widely accepted “Shared Parking” concept for mixed use developments.Mr. Simon was a registered lobbyist in Michigan. In 2003, he led the effort to lobby the State Legislature and Governor to pass Bill 4764 that resulted in thwarting a hostile takeover of Taubman Centers Inc. In 2008 he successfully led a successful major State-wide referendum campaign, with substantial opposition, which was successful resulting in changing the State Constitution. Mr. Simon also currently serves as CEO, Simon Real Estate Management, LLC, and Managing Director, Avignon Consulting LLC.
