Instrumentation Specialist I
As a key member of the scientific team, Instrument Specialist operate in a fast-paced clinical toxicology laboratory using state of the art LC-MS/MS technology for the detection of prescription and illicit drugs. The following are intended to be examples of the accountabilities for which the person in this position is responsible. This position description is not intended to be complete or all-inclusive and does not preclude management from assigning other or related functions for which the individual has demonstrated competency through performance. Under constant and direct supervision of Clinical Laboratory Scientists: Analyze chromatographic data in a fast-paced clinical toxicology lab using state of the art LC-MS/MS technology. Interface with the appropriate maintenance and manufacturing resources to resolve, improve and implement HPLC and mass spectrometer maintenance activities in a safe, responsible and environmentally sound manner which is in compliance with all regulatory requirements. Troubleshoot and analyze problem areas to determine specific causes and the identification of appropriate corrective actions as well as develop a communication plan to properly disseminate information to production and/or maintenance functions. Instrumentation testing and troubleshooting: resolving electrical, mechanical and chemical issues with the instruments and guaranteeing their performance. Administrate company’s regulatory asset manager software for service requests and preventive maintenance. May develop protocols and execute various validations to ensure product transfer from R&D to Production within the company. May assist with research and development of new tests and techniques. May present data in oral and written format to technical leadership groups. Assure ongoing compliance with standard operating procedures and to all regulatory standards. Required to follow all safety procedures, policies, precautions, and Quality Assurance. Other duties as assigned.
Laboratory Technician
• Assists with testing all test methods approved by CAP, NY and CLIA under Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) supervision. • May provide training and guidance to other Laboratory Technicians, Laboratory Assistants and Data Entry personnel as well as other laboratory personnel as appropriate. • Assists in process improvement activities such as quality, safety, document management and control, and proficiency testing. • May assist with the implementation of test methods from internal and external sources. • May interact with vendors on special projects such as test method validations and new equipment. • May participate in technical studies designed to improve or validate clinical laboratory testing methods. • Required to work closely with CLSs and report all problems to Lead, laboratory operations; General Supervisor and/or Lab Director. • Assists with instrument maintenance and repair. • Performs preventative maintenance and calibrations on laboratory equipment and instruments. • Perform instrument troubleshooting, repairs and quality control procedures. • Monitors reagent and supply inventory. • May prepare laboratory reagents and assay materials according to SOPs, standard laboratory recipes/formulas under CLS supervision. • Organizes patient specimen and assay worksheets/printouts for testing and CLS review. • Assists in writing Laboratory documents such as Standard Operating Procedures and departmental forms. • Required to follow all safety procedures, policies, precautions, and Quality Assurance.
Specimen Opener
The Laboratory Specimen Processor is responsible for all aspects of the pre-analytical process in the laboratory with regards to UDT and OFT processing which include the following: Specimen receiving, sorting and specimen bag opening. Initial data entry of tests ordered into Millennium Laboratory Information System as requested by practices/accounts. Ensure correct labels are affixed to requisitions, demographic cover sheet and test tubes (when applicable) and specimen container. Validate requisitions against specimens prior to scanning and entering practice information and tests to ensure that the ID numbers and names match. Confirm that all practice and in-house accession numbers and specimen IDs are validated. Aliquot, centrifuge, batch and rack specimens in preparation for testing. Responsible for accurately validate requisitions against specimens prior to scanning and entering practice information and tests. Ensures correct labels are affixed to requisitions, test tubes and specimens. Demonstrates effective communication for product movement throughout the laboratory. Must be knowledgeable and aware of cross-contamination potentials and bring occurrences to Supervisor’s attention immediately for correction. Ability to work in multiple cells, with the ability to transition between tasks within the cells. Clean and maintain the laboratory and all equipment. Complete daily housekeeping per company SOP. Manage the waste produced by the pre-analytical processes as well as keep the lab free of debris and trash at all times. Demonstrates understanding of HIPAA laws and ability to maintain-confidentiality. Demonstrates understanding of company’s safety practices. Demonstrates awareness of safety issues and demonstrates consistent work practices at all times. Perform all responsibilities in accordance with company policies, SOPs, regulatory standards and regulations and accrediting agencies, including the proper wearing of PPE as required.
