My name is John Koenig and I am proudly from Long Island, New York. Currently, I am serving as a commissioned Field Artillery officer in the United States Army. I graduated from the City University of New York (Macaulay Honors & Baruch Colleges) in May 2023, earning a Cum Laude B.A. in Political Science, along with minors in History (focus on China & Egypt) & Interdisciplinary Studies. In my final semester, I published my Honors Thesis, "The Origins of the Iraq War: The Role of Anthrax in the Weapons of Mass Destruction Claims." Previously, I held a multitude of positions & internships. I enlisted in the New York Army National Guard & served as a soldier in a Field Artillery battery. The skills & experiences I gained from an internship for a New York State gubernatorial candidate enabled me to be elevated to a campaign staffer in one of the tightest races in decades. I completed an internship with the Department of Defense in the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, where I studied & applied Wargaming Theory & Practice with a concentration on Eastern Europe & nuclear weapons. My final internship before going active duty in the military was serving as a Nassau County Executive Intern specializing in Intergovernmental Affairs. My hobbies include wrestling, golfing, crabbing, history, travelling, & reading.
