    122Nd Asos Jan 2003 - Jan 2004
    Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan
Assigned to the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force (CJSOTF). Initially stationed in Jalalabad in support of the 20th Special Forces Group, Operational Detachment Alpha. At this location I supported the U.S. Army Special Forces with Close Air Support during missions. Later assigned to the Tactical Operations Center at Bagram Air Base managing 43 JTAC personnel stationed throughout the country. I was responsible for incoming equipment, shipping to the forward operating base locations, repairing or replacing damaged equipment, and coordinating with equipment manufacturers to ensure replacements were provided in a timely manner in order to prevent any negative impacts on the mission.Due to the isolated location, communications was key to mission success. Utilizing the portable tactical satellite radio, I was able to configure both the radio and the laptop to pass data traffic back to the Tactical Operations Center and allow the fighter pilots to conduct their mission planning with actual photos of the target location prior to getting in the air, rather than spending additional time for verbal descriptions once they arrive above the target area. Once I was assigned to the Tactical Operations Center, I instructed the other JTAC personnel to configure their equipment in similar fashion and pass data back to the Operations Center prior to every mission. This greatly enhanced safety and the responsiveness of aircraft to support the ground scheme of maneuver, and it was the first time such a system had been used in Operations Enduring Freedom.
