As a member of the ETS Unix and Middleware team, I am responsible for the architecture and design of all aspects of the current Sensis AWS accounts. This work includes designing the network and security for multiple AWS accounts, ensuring all infrastructure was implemented as code and developing a secure and standardised framework for developers to use in their CI/CD implementations.My specific achievements wereDesigned and implemented the infrastructure for the new whitepage, moving the web site from a static on premise environment backed by a FAST Search engine into scalable and elastic AWS implementation with Java and Elasticsearch.Migrated the legacy YellowPages search application from Solr to Elasticsearch in AWS.Creation of an internal PAAS using Python, providing different development teams with a system to autonomously manage fully version controlled stacks in AWS.Designed and built an Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana logging solution for all Sensis applications hosted in AWS. This solution now handles over 100G per day in logs and provides a central place for developers to access and search their logs without having to log onto the EC2 instances.Creation of multiple Sensis APIs through AWS API Gateway, Lambdas and EC2 instances.As part of a team we have successfully migrated thousands of virtual machines and physical servers from on premise data centers into AWS.

As a senior member of the Site Operations team I was responsible for all aspects of running the Realestate.com.au site, including provisioning, design, implementation, deployment and maintenance, security, networking and storage. My main achievements in this role wereDevelopment of the Home-Ideas site, based on a new infrastructure of VMWare, Chef and Rundeck. The new infrastructure is designed so that each new deployment sees the complete reprovisioning of servers from scratch.Implementation of a fully automated deployment of our Fast search environment to reduce to downtime for deployments from 18 hours to 4.Maintained the Puppet infrastructure for roughly 200 servers based in three data centers.Application overhaul of Ruby On Rails architecture to support the migration of legacy Perl applications.

In the Enterprise Services UNIX Operations team I supported Sensis flagship applications including www.whitepages.com.au, www.yellowpages.com.au, www.whereis.com.au and about 90 other business critical applications. I provided rapid response to incidents; administered and monitored the Sensis UNIX infrastructure and made recommendations to improve the performance and stability of applications.Sensis management described my work as “setting the standard for attention to detail and follow-through within the Unix Operations team”.In this role I have: Extensive experience diagnosing and resolving outages in Sensis applications, including www.whitepages.com.au, www.yellowpages.com.au and www.whereis.com.au.Subject Matter Expert for whitepages.com.au, providing in-depth technical support, training and documentation for the operations team and working with the development team to deploy changes into the staging, production and disaster recovery environments.Identifying UNIX, network, database, storage and hardware failures, rapidly resolving incidents and identifying long-term solutions.In-depth experience working in a ITIL environment, specifically within the service transition and operation life cycles.Developing administration packages and RPMs to automate user account creation and upgrade the backup solution for a heterogeneous environment containing over 1500 servers with divergent operating systems.Automating monitoring configurations to ensure standardised monitoring of servers based on their hardware, operating system, application environment and the SLAs covering the application that they run. Mentoring junior system administrators and developing problem handling, infrastructure and monitoring policies.
