I manage a multi-disciplinary team of actuarial data scientists and commercial data analysts responsible for pricing analytics at Aviva UK Health. The key responsibilities for me and my team are:• Utilising statistical methods to predict customer behaviour including insurance claims for hospital medical treatment and propensities for purchase and retention• Presenting recommendations and writing reports for senior stakeholders, setting pricing strategy and rates to achieve business objectives including financial metrics• Developing innovative pricing factors and more sophisticated methods to improve accuracy of prices and produce advantage over competitors.• Setting user stories and specifications for pricing systems so that IT developers can implement models within live rates• Cleansing, processing and formatting data for statistical analyses, and where necessary proposing expansion or improvement of source data tables• Constructing a framework of controls to comply with business standards to manage pricing risk

For most of my time at GAD I performed consultancy work for the NHS Pension Scheme, including taking the lead on scheme data provision and presenting analysis in pensions negotiations between government and trade unions. The main responsibilities were:• Teleconferences, meetings and workshops with clients and stakeholders to understand their requirements, to present results and for collaboration on data issues.• Preparation, calculations and reporting for a wide variety of valuations.• Modelling and interpretation of results to inform government policy decisions.• Checks on and supervision of calculations by more junior trainees.I was also seconded to perform an independent review of valuation methodology for the Asset Protection Scheme, through which the government provided insurance for RBS toxic assets. My main responsibilities were:• Highly independent working, reporting to GAD’s technical director.• Understanding of the complex valuation model, and scaling to this unprecedented scheme.• Seeking evidence to support assumptions and writing comprehensive reports.
