My inspiration to study mechanical engineering came from my brightest and most successful pilots, who all happened to have degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering. There were countless times when these pilots’ split-second analysis and decision-making skills saved our lives and ensured mission success. I wanted to be like them, I wanted the unique skillset of a mechanical engineer.I achieved over 1300 mishap-free flight hours in an MH-60S helicopter during my flying career, becoming fully qualified in all mission sets to include Personnel Recovery, Spec-op Insertion and Extraction, Anti-Surface Warfare, and Search and Rescue. In October 2014, I was awarded with a Sikorsky Rescue Award for a successful In-Theatre Rescue while operating in the Persian Gulf. Throughout my service career I accumulated a Navy Commendation Medal (COM) and two Navy Achievement Medals (NAM’s). During my professional career I have been blessed to have had experience in structural analysis and design at Northrop Grumman as well as a Field and Office Engineer at Hensel Phelps. These opportunities have cultivated my experience to becoming a well-rounded engineering prospect. I am currently fully invested in my senior capstone project, the fabrication and characterization of reduced-density impact mitigating foams. These materials have prospective use in football helmets, running shoes, and various types of armor. The experiences I have gained through all of my professional career have led me to one conclusion. I want to continue learning and making a difference in society. The education that I am receiving at San Diego State University has humbled me and inspired me to learn as much as I can, and to take every opportunity to better myself. I am seeking an internship starting early 2020 with prospective full-time employment upon graduation in May 2020. I hope to find a company that will allow me to flourish as an engineer, accomplishing my goals of making a difference in the world through innovation and science as well as fostering continued professional progression.
