Developed and set in place standard operational procedures for lab testing of soil, aggregate, and concrete samples. During the summer of 2015, I worked in the Cellasto manufacturing plant at BASF's Wyandotte, MI site with the Production Engineering team. Cellasto is a microcellular polyurethane foam developed by BASF for use mainly in automotive suspension components as jounce bumpers, coil spring isolators, or strut mounts. Daily plant operations included receiving raw chemicals, synthesizing the Cellasto material, forming the parts using steel molds and curing ovens, and visual inspection of each individual part. I supported engineering teams in the production plant by gathering and analyzing temperature profiles, creating visual results, and presenting possible solutions for process improvement projects. I identified deficiencies in current operations and correlated possible impacts on safety, production, and process efficiency. I received hands on experience in part design, production processes, and the design and control for high output manufacturing systems. I received significant exposure to Lean Six Sigma practices (yellow belt training), global engineering practices, automated inspection system applications, global customer relations, high throughput production (46 mil parts/year), and machine maintenance.
