Hi, I'm Jonathan Rodriguez, a passionate and driven student in the field of Biomedical Sciences. Currently, I am pursuing my Bachelor of Science degree at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) with an expected graduation date of May 2024. I take great pride in my academic achievements, which have been recognized through various awards and honors. In 2023, I was honored to receive the prestigious Honor BMED Scholarship, and in 2022, I was selected as a recipient of the Biomedical Sciences Scholar Program. Furthermore, I have been acknowledged on UTRGV's President's List Honors and Dean's List Honors for my outstanding performance. While excelling academically is important to me, I also believe in gaining practical experience. As a Research Assistant in two distinguished laboratories at UTRGV, I have had the privilege of contributing to cutting-edge research. In the Dr. Lopez-Juarez Research Lab, I am actively involved in studying the effects of mutations in the RAS pathway on development. This entails conducting Polymerase Chain Reaction tests, analyzing DNA samples using Gel Electrophoresis, performing mouse husbandry, and quantifying cells. Prior to this, I worked in the Dr. Hongxing Lu Research Lab, where I investigated the correlation between psychological stress and body weight, eating habits, and physical activity in young college students.Beyond my academic and research pursuits, I am committed to making a positive impact in various ways. As a Student Advisor at UTRGV, I have had the privilege of guiding and assisting incoming and transfer students in their academic and social integration. Additionally, I have held leadership positions in student organizations such as the Neuroscience Club, where I served as President, and the Student Government Association, where I represented the College of Health Professions as a Senator. I also played a pivotal role as Treasurer and Founding Officer of the Pre-Medical Society. Giving back to the community is essential to me, and I have actively participated in volunteer initiatives such as Operation Border Health Preparedness, Sombrero Fest, and the TAMUK Ambassador Program. Through these experiences, I have been able to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals in need and contribute to society in a meaningful way. With my strong academic foundation, extensive research experience, and demonstrated leadership abilities.
