I am one of the leaders of the editorial team at this independent, non-profit magazine covering the American West. I write a handful of longform feature stories each year, as well as frequent, shorter Web posts, and edit several longer pieces. My specialties are energy and economics, though my intellectual curiosity often leads me down many other paths. Based out of Durango, Colorado, I also serve as the on-the-ground eyes and ears for the Four Corners region. Currently writing a non-fiction book about the Animas River in southwestern Colorado, to be published by Torrey House Press in spring of 2018.

I steer editorial direction -- both print and Web -- and manage the editorial staff and freelancers of this award-winning, non-profit, independent news magazine and Web site covering the American West's environmental, economic, cultural and community issues. I also write frequently for the magazine and Website.

As associate editor, I oversaw the front of the book of this award-winning magazine, edited all shorter news pieces, wrote several pieces, and managed contributing editors.

The official, 135-year-old weekly newspaper for San Juan County and Silverton, Colorado, a tiny, high-mountain town. A one-person (with some help) operation -- I did everything from reporting to writing to photography to layout and design to dealing with the books. The publication won 18 Colorado Press Association awards during my tenure, for everything from news and sports photography, to editorial writing and feature writing, to design.

I started this news, literary journal in 2000. It was an ambitious, maybe slightly crazy, endeavor. But for two-and-a-half years I pounded away at it, doing everything from reporting news, to writing features, to photography, layout and design.
