Looking To Learn Educator
The Looking to Learn program is a core component on the Massachusetts College of Art campus. I am responsible for collaborating with Boston Public Schools and other school systems around the state to create learning experiences through interactions with contemporary art. My current work includes developing and delivering a suite of online content for all audiences, MAAM At Home, the educational resources located on the MAAM website, training museum attendants, bringing a new collaboration with MassArt Youth Programs faculty, as well as initiating a new set of programs designed for families, including Art & Stories.
Education Program Coordinator
Historic New England’s school and youth programs earn national attention for the innovative ways in which they use historical resources to reinforce and enrich student learning. Programs are fun, multi-disciplinary, and suited to a variety of learning styles. At Historic New England, I created new partnerships in order to drive innovation; resulting in a series of learning experiences to connect the collections of four historic house museums with K-12 classroom curriculum, to translate into a digital platform the stories of objects telling maritime history of Maine, and to bring interactive, self guided tours to the Isles of Shoals to explore the subject of creative life of 19th century. I was responsible for creating community partnerships by developing and implementing education programs at four Maine historic house museums, and developing classroom resources for schools and youth organizations throughout the state of Maine.
Administrator
At the Historical Society of Wells and Ogunquit I was responsible for fundraising, curating museum exhibitions, and managing operations and staff. I implemented new marketing strategies, organized memberships, designed a new website, and the produced the curatorial plan for museum collections. I curated the archives and collections, and secured foundation funding for the re-installation of the museum. My success in leading several grant funded restoration projects, including the 1862 windows, and the Industrial Age bell, was how I forwarded the mission of the organization as the official steward of one hundred and fifty year old building that houses the Meetinghouse Museum.
Curator Of Exhibitions, Irvine Gallery At River Tree Arts
At River Tree Art, I transformed the gallery presence and developed a vision for a year of exhibitions and related gallery programs. My work with the Board and Development Committee helped to create a new plan for membership drives, as well as establishing a new and successful the annual fundraiser exhibition Ten by Ten.
Assistant Director Of Family And Studio Learning
At the Portland Museum of Art I managed projects across the city and state as well as engaged the region’s artists to create a series of interactive site specific exhibitions and innovative programming, like Artist Interventions, in the museum galleries. As part of the interpretive team, I created components for an immersive experience at the historic Winslow Homer Studio. My role was to develop innovative family-focused installations and I produced multiple museum experiences, and curated interactive exhibitions to drive visitors.I also designed curriculums for students and supervised art camps, and oversaw education gallery plan, budget, and installation.
Fine Art Teacher
I achieved recognition at Wareham High School in Massachusetts for developing the online course, Practical Art History for Virtual High School, creating the Community of Artists lecture series for students and faculty, securing Mass Cultural Council grant funding for a series of projects including a website on Cape Verde history, collaborating with colleagues to incorporate student art in the school garden, initiating a mentor program between high school and elementary students a sculpture garden, and more. It is where my art teaching practice expanded upon the philosophy of “artist as teacher” developed in graduate school at Rhode Island School of Design.
