About Katherine Saylor

My ambition and perseverance define me as a person and as a young professional. Someone once told me that when faced with challenges, "you don't just survive, you thrive." Since then, it has been my mantra when life gets difficult.Life did just that after my freshman year at Penn State. In June 2018, my mom, my sole-supporter and best friend passed away. It began the most difficult year of my life, as I was the executor of my mother's estate at only nineteen, and I had lost so much. In her honor, I refused to let my devastation and grief stop my success. I excelled during my sophomore year at Penn State as a leader of a 500-person fundraising organization, finishing with a 3.7 GPA, all while grieving. I was facing my worst fear, but I constantly told myself, "don't just survive, thrive." To my own surprise, I did it. The following summer, I traveled a lot in hopes of healing and growth. I found that when I went to Costa Rica for three weeks to volunteer at an animal rescue center. There, I found peace and was inspired by the people and culture around me. Giving back and making a difference inspired me more than ever.Overcoming the loss of my mother was the most difficult thing I could imagine, and I did it. Not only did I survive, but I am a better person today because of my experiences. The point of telling you this is not to seek pity. It's to show you that nothing can stop my drive for success. In the face of adversity, I am unstoppable. My goal isn't to survive; I aim to thrive in my life and career. In spite of the chaos caused by COVID-19, I was fortunate enough to find a full-time position at nonprofit association, the Institute for Organizational Mindfulness (IOM). With IOM, I worked to create, implement and adjust our social media marketing strategy with a focus on LinkedIn marketing. During my senior year at Penn State, I've spent free time from classes assisting Dr. Michelle Yarwood, a professor at the Penn State Department of Psychology, in her advance-level psychology courses, PSYCH 423, Psychology of Interpersonal Relationships, and PSYCH 425, Psychology of Human Emotion. I am currently open to marketing, PR, social media management/strategy, writing, and other communication positions.
