Public Health Inspections (PHI), a division of Denver’s Department of Environmental Health, works to minimize the risk of communicable and infectious diseases and ensure public health and safety. PHI does this by conducting inspections, investigations, providing technical assistance, education and enforcement in facilities regulated by city ordinance.

• Developed and administered 40+ health promotion initiatives and programs, including both employee programs and community facing programs, focused on food security, mental health promotion and stigma reduction.• Championed health initiatives within the organization and externally with community groups, patients and families on topics including healthy eating/active living (HEAL) and increased access to healthy food.• Led strategic wellness planning to support human resources and company-wide strategic goals across 18 locations.• Coordinated and executed creation of the 3,000 sq. ft Healthy Roots Garden & micro-farm, building a space that’s actively utilized by thousands of guests for education, therapies, quiet reprieve, events and food production.− Attracted 1,000+ guests and grew over 1,200 pounds of produce to distribute to food insecure patient families in first season. − Managed the project from end to end, securing $125K in funds for the initial build alongside a $50K/year urban farmer salary. − Solidified a partnership with a large corporation to contribute $150K/yr. for 8 years for sustained garden upkeep. • Spearheaded creation of the first food clinic within a Colorado hospital as an innovative solution to deliver wraparound services to food insecure patients and families; to date, the clinic has distributed over 100,000 pounds of food and now serves over 65 families per week. • Served as a content expert on Executive Leadership committees to support total worker health and holistic wellbeing.• Planned hospital-wide events and celebrations ranging from 20 - 1,200 attendees.• Partnered closely with Foundation staff to identify innovative partnerships & attract donors, raising over $1.4M in funds.• Nourished relationships with vendors, insurances carriers, health departments and community partners in order to collaborate on community initiatives focused on improving child health and health equity.

• Led multi-disciplinary program and 12 committees focused on creating a healthy environment to benefit patients, visitors, team members and the community.• Collaborated with various departments and community partners to implement and manage initiatives supporting nutrition, physical activity, resiliency, emotional and mental well-being, food security and sustainability.• Managed all program activities for 9 separate programs including pilot projects, education campaigns, survey research and data analysis. − Supported Colorado Healthy Hospital Compact to become 1st in the state to reach platinum-level in implementing the most initiatives focused on improving nutrition environment and promotion of breastfeeding. − Reduced an estimated 80,000 lbs. of sugar over 3 campuses in 2017 through the Healthier Beverage Policy. − Increased utilization of employee mental health services to achieve utilization rate of 40% through promotion of the employee assistance program; double the utilization for vendors’ book of business. • Supported policy development and implementation around Wellness and Healthy Hospital functions, defined and maintained internal processes, and provided technical expertise on programs and best practices.• Oversaw and managed communications to the organization on Wellness and Healthy Hospital projects. • Spearheaded successful efforts to eliminate sugar-sweetened beverages for the hospital system, which required extensive buy-in from leadership; resulted in a Public Health Hero Award from commitment Public Health for ongoing commitment to child health, specifically for vulnerable populations.− Enabled the hospital to align with state and local public health campaigns to further support the initiative.

• Developed orientation and training materials for new staff and supervised new hire training; managed initial and on-going training of administrative staff. • Led administrative coordination of departmental operations and processes, project management, data management and calendar management for direct supervisors, departmental physicians and staff.• Liaison to external vendors, equipment representatives, clinical trainers and external departments.• Managed quality and process improvement audits; tracked outcomes and wrote annual reports.• Provided support for departmental financial processes involving supply/inventory and equipment management, departmental budget support and expense report management.

-Conducted assessments of food and beverage environment at Children’s hospital using tool developed by CDC-Analyzes nutritional content of all pre-packaged food and snack items sold in hospital cafeteria and vending; labels all food items in accordance with Stop Light messaging (“go”-green/”slow”-yellow/”whoa”-red) to encourage healthier, balanced choices-Works with vendor to ensure items stocked and sold in vending machines/areas comply with Healthy Hospital food and beverage policies; research, request and make recommendations to vendor regarding healthier (green) food and beverage products-Develops marketing and educational materials for Healthy Hospital initiates-Assisted with the development of organizational food and beverage policies -Collaborated with a group of nationwide children’s hospitals to develop and share best practices regarding the improvement of food and beverage environments and the development and implementation of food and beverage policy
