I look for those who are rooted in a strong sense of social justice, who advocate for those who live at the margins, who may feel invisible or voiceless. In exploring opportunities with each candidate, I am considering them not just for the job they applied for - but for the next potential opportunity with St. Joseph Center.I build capacity externally by partnering with everyone who can contribute to my agency's growth. Since most often my focus is on strategic hiring, my partners tend to be field placement staff, professors and career advisors at top universities - as well as those in other non-profits who develop talented AmeriCorps volunteers and Jump Start interns.The fight to end homelessness in Los Angeles is a marathon, not a sprint. Launch first-in-the-nation diabetes prevention camps in Los Angeles and Oxnard for the American Diabetes Association. Along with clinical partners Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Las Islas Family Clinics respectively, create a camp experience for children and families where they can incorporate the lessons they learn regarding diet, nutrition and exercise into their daily lives. Manage logistics, recruit volunteers and solicit in-kind donations to minimize expenses and maximize programming dollars.
