These typically are invitation-only groups of up to 16 like-minded CEOs from non-competing sectors who share a vision to transform their businesses and lives, and positively impact those around them, through great financial results, strong personal relationships and a positive contribution to the wider community. In the UK, Vistage has over 90 regional groups comprised of up to 16 business leaders, led by a Vistage Chair, like myself, who acts as a facilitator and business coach. We provides an environment where group members can advise one another by testing plans, assumptions and decisions, and learn from a world-wide network of business experts. I served two terms as a member of the CBI Scotland Council. The CBI is the premier lobbying organisation for UK business on national and international issues. The CBI work with the UK government, international legislators and policy-makers to help UK businesses compete effectively. CBI policy is decided by the members – senior professionals from all sectors and sizes of business are directly involved in the policy-making process.

Reform Scotland is an independent, non-party think tank that aims to set out a better way to deliver increased economic prosperity and more effective public services based on the traditional Scottish principles of limited government, diversity and personal responsibility.

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers was created on the initiative of HRH The Princess Royal in 1991. At that time people caring at home for family members or friends with disabilities and chronic illnesses were scarcely recognised as requiring support. The Princess Royal Trust for Carers is the largest provider of comprehensive carers support services in the UK. The Royal Scottish National Orchestra is one of Europe's leading symphony orchestras. Formed in 1891 as the Scottish Orchestra, the company became the Scottish National Orchestra in 1950, and was awarded Royal Patronage in 1991. Throughout its proud history, the Orchestra has played an important part in Scotland's musical life, including performing at the opening ceremony of the Scottish Parliament building in 2004.

ICS is the leading and best established distance learning provider in the UK with over 150 courses delivered to tens of thousands of students worldwide.

As a director on the Council, I worked to drive forward the Chamber's objectives as the leading business support organisation in the East of Scotland, and Scotland's largest Chamber of Commerce.

I was the first Director of Glasgow: Edinburgh Collaboration, a joint initiative between the City Councils of Glasgow and Edinburgh, and Scottish Enterprise, signifying the importance of Scotland’s two largest cities to the economic growth of the country.

On the Board of Management for four years and as a director on Council for an additional two years, I worked to drive forward the Chamber's objectives as the foremost business support organisation in the West of Scotland.

Glasgow Graduate School of Law was a merger between the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde Law Schools. I taught Corporate & Commercial Law on the Diploma of Legal Practice Course to Law graduates.
