With a background in food systems science and policy, community development, and team management, I am passionate about fostering collaborative partnerships among food producers, policy-makers, and scientists across the United States. I am dedicated to promoting effective collaborative resource management to support sustainable ecosystems and resilient, engaged, empowered, and equitable coastal communities. In my current work, I use a collaborative-leadership model to develop and deliver a nationally recognized education program that equips fishermen and other fishery users to become leaders in fisheries science and management at regional and national levels. We empower a diversity of fishermen and fishery users to harness their valuable experiential knowledge, and engage in collaborative stewardship of resources, balancing environmental, economic, and cultural values within the legal framework guiding federal fisheries. While national in scope, the program is tailored to each region, addressing local fisheries community needs and values, rooted in trust and relationships built with respected community leaders.
