Distributed All-optical CO2 Sensing for Field-scale Subsurface Carbon Management; Project funded by Carbon Management of CanadaIn 2012, I joined a team at University of Victoria and we started to develop fiber optic based sensors to provide continuous measurements of CO2 concentration under typical conditions of geological CO2 storage. Carbon Capture and Storage is considered to have great potential in reducing CO2 emissions in a relatively short period of time. A key aspect for Carbon Storage is to develop reliable technology to verify secure storage of CO2, fulfill safety regulations and achieve public acceptance. From this project, I acquired the following EXPERIENCE:- Designing various fiber optic sensors, in particular, refractive index based sensors;- Data processing and analysis using software tools including Matlab and OriginaLab - Developing nano coatings with dip-coating and atomic layer deposition to enhance the sensitivity of fiber optic sensors;- Using the scanning electron microscope to characterize materials (coating thickness, material composition);- Sensor testing;- Prototype developing;

Optical Sensors and Nanomaterials for Anion Recognition;Project funded by the Portuguese National Funding Agency for Science, Research and Technology (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia)After completing my Master thesis, I worked on a project to develop optical sensors for anion recognition.
