Career History 2001 –Present - The Royal NavyFirst Class SeamanSpecialist. Work involves upper deck maintenance of the ship’s exterior, bridge watch keeping which involves observation of any potential threats, liaising with the Officer of the Watch, acting as helmsman and operating VHF radios to communicate with other ships and pilot stations.AssociationWhilst on operational deployments I am a tactical sea boat coxswain used for anti piracy and boarding operations. I am one of six personnel qualified on HMS Kent to coxswain a seaboat east of the Suez Canal, as I have completed an advanced tactical coxswain’s course. Furthermore, my role includes chart work and working on the cable deck. For a period of time I was also employed as a navigator’s yeoman. For this role I had to have an in-depth knowledge of charts, updating both hard copies and digital charts, using various pieces of navigational equipment and its maintenance. It was essential I informed the Navigator Officer and the Captain of any navigational warnings, port closures or poor meteorological conditions via Navtex, VHF radio, port authorities and weekly Notice to Mariners. Over the years, I have developed an in depth knowledge of seamanship and navigational skills.
