Turitea School is a semi-rural year 1-6 primary school founded in 1895. After being co-opted to the Board for my financial skills in 2018 in the role of Treasurer I was then elected as a Parent Representative in 2019. This year I was encouraged to step into the Presiding Member (Chair) role. In my time on the board our biggest success was successfully recruiting a replacement principal for the incumbent who retired after 21 years in the role in 2021. As a student achievement focused school, there have been many experiences engaging with stakeholder groups that have given me opportunities I wouldn’t have otherwise had, including a tour by Rangitāne of some local sites of importance.

ANZ approached me to join the team. In this role I have supported the Commercial Relationship Managers looking after the banking requirements of larger businesses and commercial property owners in the region, working closely with our Agribusiness and Retail teams. This includes structuring deals, and heavy involvement in both Credit and Sales processes including personally holding a CAD. With my experience I have had a broader role strengthening the team than is normal for this position title, and I am a “go to” person for the wider team with questions about how things work including bank policies, financial statements, and derivatives. I step in to cover Relationship Managers when required including covering a role from February to August 2021.
