Early in my career, I wrote a story about a day in the life of a refugee. Detailing every step he took each day, I began to understand what a truly desperate situation looks like. I also understood the value of hope. When he contacted me two years later to share that my story was the beginning of his resettlement to Canada, my life was changed forever. I realized that becoming a voice for the voiceless is my purpose and what I would like to do every single day. I’m passionate about helping people transform their mindset and equipping them with tools to build their livelihoods. I do that every day as a Humanitarian Affairs Officer for the United Nations. Each day, I’m fundraising and building relationships and partnerships to mobilize resources that bring aid to people displaced by conflict or natural disasters around the world. Aid is just the first step toward our global sustainable development goals. We must build resilience. I would love to work more on development projects that address causes where we can ensure that we develop people’s capacity, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all.
