- Lead developer for Virginia’s web based novel H1N1 vaccinator registration system.- Lead developer for Virginia’s surveillance system for Novel H1N1 Influenza.- Planned and coordinated Virginia’s surveillance around the 2009 Inaugural.- Coordinated Virginia’s response to the Boy Scout Jamboree, coordinating with Boy Scouts of America, US Army, US Public Health Service, as well as other federal, state, and county agencies.- Coordinated communication between CDC and large hospital systems within Virginia to get data into Biosense.- Automated and implemented special hurricane surveillance utilizing CDCs EARS.- Improved, guided, and expanded the implementation of ESSENCE statewide. - Coordinated Virginia’s involvement in the ISDS project DiSTRIBuTE.- Introduced, automated, and implemented the use of CDCs EARS program to facilitate routine analysis of NEDSS Surveillance data.- Supervised an enhanced surveillance epidemiologist, application manager (responsible for ESSENCE, OMS, and other applications), flu coordinator, an H1N1 epidemiologist, and an H1N1 statistical analyst.- Created new Web Portal Page known as Epi-Tool Kit for field personnel.- Created new policies for data management, including building and implementing a relational outbreak tracking database and messaging information to the lab.- Created and automated ILI surveillance database using Chief Complaint data from hospitals participating in ESSENCE system.- Developed a relational database for use during extensive Salmonella PFGE cluster outbreak.- Participated in multiple national workgroups to refine PHIN certification requirements.- Represented VDH on the National Capital Region ESOG (Enhanced Surveillance Operating Group).- Represented Virginia at yearly CDC EARS conferences.- Acted as Master of Ceremonies for CDC during the International EARS Workshop in Boston 2008.- Acted as liaison for the division on GIS issues.

- Initiated syndromic surveillance in Georgia, including school absentee surveillance and RODS over the counter data system for Georgia utilizing CDCs EARS.- Key member of the team coordinating Georgia Division of Public Health response to the G8 summit, involving coordination with Secret Service as well as other federal, state, and county agencies.- Developed and implemented ED syndromic surveillance system in 5 hospitals around the G8 Summit using text based chief complaints - including text parsing, and automation of CDCs EARS.- Assessed surveillance capabilities in general and identified key areas in need of improvement.- Developed and implemented plans to improve surveillance of disease, including timeliness, completeness, data flow, SENDSS development, and district centric reporting.- Created and supervised student positions to evaluate different syndromic surveillance data sources available to the division.- Offered recommendations on how to analyze and institutionalize syndromic surveillance post G8 summit using CDCs EARS and other analytic tools.- Participated in developing a public health liaison position designed to improve relationships between providers and local and state public health resources.- Initiated a MEDEX program with the Fulton County Medical Examiner.- Acted as liaison to districts and other groups such as MASTF and GICN on all surveillance issues.- Acted as a GIS resource for disease coordinators.- Developed project plans for and wrote pieces of the Bioterrorism Grant.
