It might be easier to say what I didn't do! At the Front Desk I managed and trained staff, handled group reservations, weddings and special events, arranged schedules, problem solved and assisted with special requests. I also oversaw Housekeeping operations and ordered supplies. I helped out F&B as needed, and was the Manager on Duty most nights, including weekends. I served as interim dining room manager for a summer when the need arose and waited tables, bartended, bussed tables, hosted and did dishes as needed.

Grand Canyon National Park, North Rim, Az

The Grand Canyon Lodge was built in 1928, burned in 1932, and rebuilt in 1936. It remains very much the same as it was in the summer of 1937 when it reopened. There are 219 guest rooms, most of which are historic cabins. It's only open in the summers. Due to the seasonal nature of the location, I was responsible for training a brand new staff one week before opening day. I had to familiarize them with the property, set expectations for the season, train everyone how to use Opera PMS and handle guest and concierge services. During the season I oversaw Lodge operations, guest services, concierge services, porters, Front Desk staff, Lost and Found and reservations. I kept to a strict budget and ensured we sold out as often as possible.

In addition to regular front desk duties, I assisted management with research projects and provided statistical analysis of our tour operations. I also assisted with group sales and staff training.

As the morning supervisor, I handled any guest issues at check out time and did a lot of preventative maintenance. The 219 room Lodge is sold out every night and in a remote location, so I was always planning ahead. I took care of special requests and trained the staff.

Located on UCONN's campus, we took care of visiting sports teams, professionals working on campus, event atendees, students, and their families. I was responsible for all normal front desk duties- check ins and outs, manually posting movie rental charges, checking balances and authorization amounts, and most importantly, taking care of the guests.
