“Did I hear that right? You increased revenue by almost 800%?” Yes! And doing so laid the foundation for my success in Quality Assurance and Executive Assistance for my career to follow. Early on, I spent 14 years as the General Manager for a semi-private golf course where I wore every possible hat in: Management, Operations, Marketing, Sales, Customer Service, Human Resources, Accounting, and more.In other words, I did it all. I learned what “Quality” meant from a small business perspective. In order to keep things running smoothly, I had to be highly organized and adept at creating/fixing our systems and processes, documenting everything, and keeping an eye on the bottom line, which, due to hard work and diligence, just kept growing!I also learned what it was like to NOT have a support staff. When I landed my first position as an Executive Assistant, I was warned that I’d soon be swamped with requests from multiple leaders in the company. It helped that I could recall what I so badly needed as the GM and began to anticipate the needs of my bosses. In fact, this talent has become one of my Unique Value Propositions. More than once I’ve been asked if I have ESP (extra-sensory perception). No, but experience and the ability to listen to my intuition has served me well!Along the way, I was able to add “Quality Assurance Specialist” to my list of Value Props. Document Control and Compliance are primary concerns for Quality professionals but it’s extremely time-consuming. In addition to the many other support roles that I play, I’m able to take that off their plate so that they can be far more productive. Through my career journey I’ve come to realize that high level leadership is only as effective as the support they have. I’m proud to play this role and, in looking back, am so happy that I found my ideal place. Being the GM was a fun ride but nothing compared to the feeling of accomplishment when a leader/team that relies on me is successful!
