About Mark Smith

Born in Christchurch New Zealand, I completed a Bachelor of Arts at UC in 2004. A talented writer with a vivid and somewhat warped imagination, I have also been a PC gamer since I was knee high to a grasshopper, and have always loved building and configuring new PC systems. After gaining some 15 years of customer service and frontline helpdesk experience in Australia, I relocated home to New Zealand in early 2022 at the tail end of the COVID pandemic, and spent a very interesting 10 days in managed isolation in an Auckland hotel, alone with my thoughts and my Netflix.In 2022 I commenced studies at NMIT's Nelson campus toward a Graduate Diploma in IT, with an ICT Infrastructure specialism. This qualification was completed in mid 2023. My knack for problem solving and my enthusiasm for PC gaming, system assembly, and network infrastructure have led me to pursue a career as a System Engineer.I am presently involved with a global Network Operations Centre where my main tasks are alarm monitoring, triage and escalation, knowledge base management, and a side of light project work.I spend time on: -practicing for certifications (Microsoft Endpoint Administrator; AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate; Microsoft Azure Administrator), and a few personal projects such as:-Using IaaS offerings from AWS to play a PC game that cannot run on my home PC. -A cloud migration project: Moving my service desk web application off premises and on to a cloud service provider.-Playing Baldur's Gate 3
