It was almost 20 years ago when the CEO of British Gas said to me - "You have been the catalyst for change for my business". If I had been a fancy change consultant I probably would have felt quite smug at that point but I wasn't. I was just a learning designer and facilitator who had created an experiential leadership program, based around a customized business simulation of British Gas, focusing on the big picture, its key issues and challenges, competitive environment, and financial performance.Reflecting on this afterwards, I realized what he meant. Not only had the program greatly improved his leaders' decision making, critical thinking and leadership capabilities; it had captured their hearts and minds, shifting their mindset and behaviors, enabling them to take actions in their part of the business that were aligned to the CEO's new strategy and so accelerate the delivery of the organization's strategic priorities.Subsequently, the power of this approach has led me all around the world working for global organizations mainly in the oil and gas, utilities, banking, pharmaceutical, professional services, automotive and FMCG sectors. Interestingly many of these so-called "L&D" programs were actually sponsored by CEOs and CFOs, as well as the more usual suspects like CLOs and Group HR Directors.Currently I am designing and delivering simulation-centric Live and Virtual learning programs across EMEA for Advantexe clients and developing business opportunities in the region focusing on Business Acumen, Business Leadership, and Business Selling. If you want to chat about your talent development challenges or wish to learn more about why 90% of Fortune 1000 companies view simulation-led experiential learning as their primary future learning enabler, I would love to hear from you at mark.haenel@advantexe.com.
