 NDT Inspector – steel castings Promotion to Chief Inspector Hands on inspection Supervision of Inspection Department Team members Continuation of personal training / adding to NDT disciplines Responsible for recording NDT inspection results, initially using old style paper log sheets and filing systems, gradually updating to an online database recording system using mobile tablets in the workplace Solely responsible for the use of a video boroscope for inspection of chambers for defects and debris, in addition to physically fitting core closure plates (a casting process feature) making sure that full weld penetration was achieved Tracking and recording each stage of a components process from initial heat treatment to final testing, before submitting records to the certification clerk for final certification and documentation pass Working shifts and overtime as required including weekends on rotation Casting identification using low stress steel stamps Liaising with relevant departments to ensure components are fit for purpose, ensuring dimensional requirements are met Main contact Inspector during witness inspection, accompanying customers and their representatives whilst on site during this process Offsite inspection work when required including a short period of long distance travel to several Caterpillar plants in Chicago USA
