Some of my most memorable gifts have been u̲s̲e̲d̲ household appliances.Since a young age, I have been fascinated by how things work. Whenever my grandparents would purchase a new household appliance, I would eventually receive the old appliance as a gift. My grandfather and I would then spend a few hours in his workshop disassembling the old appliance and discussing how all of its components worked. Two of my favorites were a Sunbeam stand mixer and a Kenmore washing machine.My curiosity about how things work led to an early career as an engineer and an eventual interest in patent law.
