Norovirus is the leading cause of foodborne illness in the U.S. I am conducting research on the use of an alternative ligand to antibodies--nucleic acid aptamers--to concentrate and detect human norovirus in food and environmental samples. I'm also working in collaboration with another lab designing biosensors for the detection of human norovirus. Finally, I am studying human norovirus infectivity and potential assays to correctly discriminate infectious from non-infectious norovirus cells in the absence of a cell culture model for human norovirus.
