Dr. Melanie Wright is a Human Factors and Social Science Subject Matter Expert for Tunnell Government Services supporting the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, in the Division of Research, Innovation, and Ventures (DRIVe). She has a PhD in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University. She has over 20 years experience in engineering and research in human performance, user experience, and human-machine system design. As Program Director, Patient Safety Research, at Trinity Health and Saint Alphonsus Health System, Dr. Wright led a research program toward the optimization of human-system performance in health care. She held academic appointments as an Associate Professor in the College of Pharmacy at Idaho State University and as Assistant Professor in Anesthesiology at the Human Simulation and Patient Safety Center at Duke University Medical Center. She has received external grant funding from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, National Library of Medicine, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation, and National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Wright's most recent research was focused on applying human-centered design methods to ensure useful and usable implementation of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning improvements to clinical informatics and health-care devices.
