Opt-4 are leading Data Protection consultants who understand the differing needs and focus of Compliance, IT and Marketing functions, helping them comply with Data Protection Act and Electronic Communications Privacy Regulations, while protecting commercial strategies. Michael has significant experience as the lead consultant in various data protection audits or large organisations, often involving multiple jurisdictions and legal regimes. He has strategic management experience of international data protection projects involving complex systems and data flows.Michael is deeply interested and involved with the use of Privacy by Design by businesses and has been responsible for providing training and advice for several PbD projects in the USA and UK.Michael has an excellent knowledge of complex data protection issues, from e-Privacy, to big data. He has been a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals for a number of years and also sits on the Legal and Ethics Committee for Federation of European Direct and Interactive Marketing (FEDMA), which is currently lobbying on the draft Data Protection Regulation.Michael's responsibilities for Opt-4 include: conducting in depth data protection reviews, project management and implementation of solutions for clients, from social media to Privacy by Design, training to drafting policies (privacy policies, cookie policies, data sharing agreements), development of new and existing products and services, internal social media management, strategic project management, multi-jurisdictional research, drafting and designing newsletters, preparing briefing documents for senior management, writing articles for journals on data protection and privacy issues, participating in industry forums, and business development projects.

Michael managed the ICC UK's Digital Economy Group, which focused on issues such as e-Privacy, Data Protection, Cloud Security, and Internet Governance.He was responsible for developing and executing policy in this area, often finding solutions to difficult issues faced by industry. Michael's work on the e-Privacy Directive, "cookie law", led to the development of industry led guidance that has become a widely adopted standard for organisations in the UK and Europe. Alongside developing key policy strategies, Michael represented ICC UK at industry events, speaking at conferences and seminars. Michael was responsible for writing articles for numerous publications. He was also responsible for the drafting of press releases and building effective media contacts to strengthen the reputation of ICC UK.Using an international network of contacts he represented ICC Uk's member's interests to Government and other industry stakeholders. As part of his role he was involved in a lot of research in order to brief senior management, ensuring policy is based on evidence and sound understanding of often very complex issues.
