After 25 years in civil consulting and construction supervision I joined the staff of Engineers Australia as support to the fledgeling National Engineering Registration Board ion 1994. Before that, my contribution to engineering included dams and related hydraulic structures and some road building. For a few years I operated as a sole practitioner in the Canberra market.Since 1994, my role has been more focused on professional standards and influence with the profile of NERB commanding greater attention and the national registration of engineers generating support, particularly among the young engineers. I was privileged to lead a consultative team that rewrote the Australian Engineering Competency Standards Stage 2, published June 2012.After retiring as Associate Director Registration in 2013, I have re-engaged with Engineers Australia in more of a consulting role, helping resolve difficult issues.
