"It's how you deal with failure that determines how you achieve success" - David Feherty Michael is from a small English village on the border of Derbyshire and Yorkshire. The village cricket club on the Apperknowle hillside, instigated a passion for sport and exercise. From such small and humble beginnings in a village of less than 200 people, Michael is living in New Zealand, working as a Development Manager for Northern Districts Cricket Association (NDCA), overseeing a region over 20,000 km². Michael developed his passion while working at Derbyshire Cricket Foundation as a Community Coach, delivering school and club cricket programmes across the county. He would also assist with the Derbyshire Pathway Players, providing technical and tactical support. In 2016 he graduated with honors from Edge Hill University with a degree in Sports Therapy, having experienced clinical placements at Liverpool Football Club Academy and St Helens Rugby League Club. Soon after, Michael travelled to Australia and New Zealand, to play and coach cricket. Now in his current role as Development Manager, Michael implements and ensures alignment of national and regional strategies, striving to grow participation for all community groups/identities. He aims to inspire the next generation of players, fans, officials and volunteers through progressive and engaging initiatives and programs. Alongside his role as Development Manager, Michael is also part of the New Zealand Cricket- Junior Advisory Group, assisting with game creation and the monitoring and review process for the National Development Programme, specifically the roll out of 'Smash Play'.
